Wonderful historical and educational read

I enjoyed LLL’s book greatly. I learned lots about his experience with bees and about his insights that many do not contemplate upon in this rushed culture of ours. He is a great individual who has contributed tremendously toward our progressive understanding of the honeybee.

Langstroth

This book is worth reading just to see the style of writing from the 1800's. In addition, it has very relevant information about beekeeping that is still being taught today. Obviously, the hive research that Langstroth did was superb. Modern beekeepers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude.

About the Author

Kelly Lambert is Professor and Chair of Psychology at Randolph-Macon College. She is the recipient of the 2001 State Council of Higher Education in Virginia's Outstanding Faculty Award. Reports of her research have been published in journals such as Stress, Nature, and Physiology and Behavior. Her popular writing has appeared in such magazines as Scientific American Mind. She is most recently the author of Lifting Depression(Basic Books, 2008).Craig Kinsley is Professor of Neuroscience in the Department of Psychology and Center for Neuroscience at the University of Richmond. His research has been published in such journals as Brain Research Bulletin, Developmental Psychobiology, Hormones and Behavior, and Nature.

Very helpful but visually unappealing

I have had the pleasure of having Dr. Lambert teach my clinical neuroscience class. The textbook is very helpful and the personal stories really kept me interested in reading and able to tie the material to a real person. Visually though, the textbook is very boring and unappealing. There is a set of colored pictures in the middle of the book but otherwise, you're looking at black and white. Dr. Lambert doesn't like all the colorful and distracting boxes that other textbooks have but I personally find them much more appealing to read. Good textbook overall! Would recommend!

The author has put a lot of passion into this book on how to basically live a better more confident life. The big boat that is referred to in the title of the book is in fact your life. There are some very nice stories that he uses to get various points across, and each one you can relate to your own situation. This is a quick and valuable read, and I am glad the author reached out to me with a sample of his work for my review. Nothing is more true than the frog story.

Short, sweet, and to the point. I loved the Dr. Seuss quote, made me laugh. Seriously though, if a person did what you advocate, they would have no choice but to be self-confident because their lives would change for the better. Thanks for writing this book and for giving me ideas of how to be more confident.

Real, simple and actionable steps to get the result you want

The simple tools in this guide will help you to gain the confidence you need to start working towards a more productive (and thus happier) life. The tips in the first half of the book are simple like smiling, changing the way you walk, wearing scents, changing your clothing, changing your environment, listening to uplifting music, trying new things, practicing gratitude, making eye contact with people you encounter, visualization, look at failure in a different way, being respectful, changing your body posture, focusing on the present, facing your fears, using creativity, promoting yourself and so on. In the second part of the book, the author discusses self-esteem and how you can build it because great self-esteem leads to confidence and the two go hand in hand. Suggestions in this area are to do things you can be proud of like mastering new skills, seeking role models, learning to play an instrument, dancing, tracking progress, making a vision board, and positive self-talk. In the third section, he author offers tips on how to motivate yourself so that you can move in the direction you want and in the fourth he shares how to improve your karmic footprint. This effective book shares common sense ideas that most people don't think about or take for granted and therefore provides real, simple and actionable steps to gain the self-esteem and confidence you need to move forward. a very good read.

In the Spirit of Yoga

Her philosophy of "Becoming a Great Yoga teacher without spending a Dime" reminds me of the greats such as Jois, Iyengar, Yogananda, they had nothing, not even a rupee when they studied. It was their commitment to their teacher, mentor, guide that developed their spiritual wealth and skills as a teacher. Essentially you don't need "rupees" you need commitment, mentorship, fellowship, and most of all experience. This book is simple, direct, and highlights the important aspects of yoga that every yoga teacher must realize before standing in front of a group of students. If you're thinking of teaching, I highly recommend this read. It's quick, easy, and to the point. FIVE STARS!

Surprisingly short

This book is a good start and the sample led me to believe it would contain lots of useful information and ideas for new teachers and others interested in becoming yoga instructors. However, the text is short on words, instruction, and ideas for filling out yoga experience through innovative means. Don't waste your $10.

I thought it was extremely basic and had very little detail. I have not done any courses or training so I can't compare, however, I feel that one can get more guidance and in depth information from free sources on the Internet. I don't recommend. Sorry.

What a cool book!

This book is surprisingly well written, if a little pedantic. Professor Gosselin clearly describes and explains how to use the major features of jQuery - sometimes with a little too much academics - but the results are very understandable. Anyone who is interested in using jQuery should add this book to his or her library.

Bad code samples, bad advice, bad book

Typos in the code samples, bad advice, and ridiculous omissions. For example, the first table in Appendix A, "Basic Selectors" includes element and id selectors, but makes no mention of class selectors. Page 14 tells us: "You are not required to use the var keyword when declaring any variables or objects in your programs; however, it is a good practice always to do so." But it doesn't tell you WHY it's a good practice, or even mention the scoping issues that will make your life miserable should you elect not to use var. Buy a different book.
