If you are into blacksmithing, even just a little bit, you have to have this book! An absolutely thorough and professional work on the history and manufacturers of anvils in America. Pictures galore of that simple, but beautiful tool so important in our history. And practical information too. I can't think of any book that has given me as much pleasure in a long, long time! Worth every penny, and maybe more.

Covers birds throughout the world

This encyclopedia is thorough in its descriptions and photographs of birds throughout the world. However, the text may have tried to take on too much, as it left out several birds in various regions. Several game birds of North America were neglected. Those included the white-tailed ptarmigan, the spruce or Franklin's grouse (aka: fool hen), mountain quail, Gambel's quail, bobwhite, scaled quail, ruffed grouse, sharp-tailed grouse, both the blue and green winged teals, just to mention a few. Also the Chukar was identified as the rock partridge.

Nevertheless, there is a great deal of scientific information for those studying birds around the world, their habitats, habits, nomenclature, and illustrations.

Amazing Rich Vibrant Gorgeous Illustrations That Fill The Entire Screen

First kids lit kindle book purchase and I was completely blown away. My son, who is almost three, loves this book as much if not more than his favorite preschool apps and games. Still can not believe that it's priced at under a dollar. The only con is I thought all kids kindle books were like this and that's not the case. I even purchased a kindle only kids book that I hoped would be set up the same way but so far this book stands alone. If anyone knows of other books that are like this please leave their titles in the comments and I'll follow up. Can't rave enough about this book. If your guy likes dinosaur (or not) this will be a hit that's read again and again.

Wonderful, Humorous Poem and Delightful Illustrations ...

Elwyn Tate’s “My T-Rex Has A Toothache” is one of my grandson’s favorite books – and for good reason. It is a delightful poem, detailing a most unusual problem of a boy’s T-Rex having a toothache. Ingenuity eventually helps the boy and his dinosaur solve the dilemma – only to have the youngster’s Pteranodon experience a problem.

Elwyn Tate writes with humor and adds charming, colorful illustrations that complement the text nicely. I particularly like that the T-Rex and the Pteranodon are rendered in a more realistic style than the people and backgrounds. That style allows a child the freedom to see the story’s imaginary “pets” as real rather than telling them the creatures are “not real”. Every adult remembers having an imaginary friend or creature – this book plays on that idea.

If you are looking for a short, fun-to-read aloud book, I recommend you purchase “My T-Rex Has A Toothache”.

Great Art and Rhyme

I got this book for my 5-year old when it was offered for free on Kindle, but this book is of the quality one would expect from a traditionally published book -- in fact, I'm not sure why it isn't. We go to the library often and I'm even frustrated with some of the books that DO get published. I've gotten lots of free Kindle edition books for kids and I'm sorry to say that most of them, even for free, are not worth keeping. This one is dramatically different. The art work is superb and the rhyming is fun and will keep a child's interest. My son loved the book too. I would hope to see more from the author/illustrator in the future -- and next time in bookstores as well!

Great Book, Excellent Start !

This is definetely one of the best books I've read in a long time.The author did a great job with character developement and plot. Although I dont play the card game this book caught my interest a long time ago(when i saw the advirtisements for it in other books) and am glad to say it was worth the wait. The story is great and also the backround for it is also great because its different involoving eastern mythology instead of western mythology. Eastern mythology is interesting and this book had a lot of it. The book was also a great start off for what i hope will be a great series. I would highly recommend this book for anyone is into the fantasy genre. I hope the other books in the series will be as great at this one.

The Scorpion strikes...

As some readers already know, The Scorpion is based on the storyline from the popular Legend of the Five Rings card game. Of course, this doesn't in any way mean that people who have never heard of L5R won't enjoy this book - quite the opposite, in fact.
In order to really explain to you how much I enjoyed this book, I'll have to blather a bit. Bear with me, please.
I play the aforementioned card game (a little) and the role-playing game based on it (avidly). I've spent a small fortune in money and time hunting down information about the very same story and characters revealed in "The Scorpion". I've read every preview, every snippet of spoilers. (And yes, I probably ought to get a life, but my local bookstore doesn't stock them...) When I picked up this book, I knew almost exactly what would happen, who would be involved, and how it would all end.
And still, I couldn't put the book down. That's how good it is. Every word, every scene rang true.
Now, other fans of L5R will probably want to know how the book relates to previously released info. The answer is, very well. There are places where Mr. Sullivan has deviated from 'official' info, but in my opinion these differences don't hurt (and sometimes even enhance) the final result.
I think that's quite enough blabbing from me. Go read this book.

If you like Asian Culture, you should try this out

I read a lot of fantasy, and am a little tired of the fact that most of it is written using medieval europe as the background culture. So when I saw The Scorpion and realized that it was a fantasy novel written using an Asian backdrop I was pretty excited. I did not realize that this was a book based on a card game. I have never played the card game, but I don't feel that you need to have played it to read this book. Now for the review. This is not a great book, so if you are expecting a masterpiece of fantasy you may be disappointed. Throughout reading it I had the feeling that it was written for a younger age group, perhaps the 12-15 year old crowd. The characterization is very crude. I found that the characters just did not have much depth. But despite that, I did find myself enjoying the book. The plot moves along at a rapid pace. At no point did the book seem to drag. And the ending was pretty good. I think that if you enjoy the Asian culture, and are looking for a quick read that is not your typical fantasy, then you should try this book out. I am planning on continuing the series and finding out what happens.

Remarkable

Okay. If you want to see what someone accurately predicted about our present world circumstance from 60 years ago this book is amazing. I almost fell out of my chair reading it for some of the astounding predictions Huxley made in 1958 that are spot on about how society has changed since then. He did not use vague generalities but direct detailed predictions based on his remarkable, almost supernatural, understanding of human nature. Do not read this if you have grave doubts about our future now...for human over population and the growth of mega billionaires makes our destiny very dark indeed. But, if you want to be prepared for what is going to happen to the human experience on planet Earth next, read this book. Nostradamas can step aside...he is a pure amateur compared to Huxley!

This is a pretty weird book, it is very interesting yet there are some parts that are really shocking, this book has a lot of orgy's, yet my high school teacher thought it was still appropriate, i believe so too, because the intercourses are not explained in detail, only mentioned. Its a good read. I would recommend

Another Aldous Huxley Masterwork!

Anyone who had the pleasure of reading the original edition of "Brave New World" published in the 1930s understands the nature of the concerns Aldous Huxley was exploring in this science fiction approach to the issues associated with modernization and where unleashed science and technology are taking us. In this marvelous companion non-fiction work published some twenty-some years later, Huxley further defines and describes the substance and consequences of his original concerns as outlined in "Brave New World". These concerns range from the fairly mundane issues of overpopulation to the quality of life for citizens in such a future society to the concerns for individual freedom and consciousness, given what he terms to be the increasing capability and interest of the upper reaches to mold and control the attitudes, dispositions, and perceptions of its individual citizens.
Huxley is uniquely qualified to engage in such an exploration, largely due to his stature given the fateful ways in which so many aspects of his prognostications about the direction of future society have been substantiated and actualized before our very eyes, including, among other things, the development of nuclear weapons and the use of nuclear power. So too, as we approach ever greater integration of national economies into something gradually approaching a single global one, his fears regarding the likelihood of the rise of `fascism with a friendly face' seems much more to the mark than did all the fears of the Orwellian `1984' type totalitarian government. Yet he also is known and respected for having been, like Edmund Wilson was here in the United States in the same time frame, as an eminent man of letters, a man capable of successfully straddling the various academic fields with a vision so powerful and so true to the facts as to allow him immense credibility and latitude.
Here he one again provides us with a fascinating, provocative, and, in retrospect, remarkably accurate of what would come to transpire in the years of the 20th century. As even Huxley himself admits, much of what has already come into existence did so much more rapidly and much more widely than he originally imagined it might. His accomplishment in this superb book is to survey the prospects for what increasingly now, in the first years of the 21st century, is now an uncomfortably accurate set of predictions of not only how we live, but under what particular set of social, economic, and political circumstances. Reading this book, in combination with several of his other texts, such as the wonderful "Doors OF Perception", helps immeasurably to liberate one from the kind of propaganda-influenced and politically correct sets of personal perceptions so many of us view the world through. This is indeed a seminal book, one that any serious student of the human condition and who lives in the so-called advanced social democracies of the western world must read to comprehend the nature of the environment he or she exists within. Oh, they just keep getting better and better!

Being stuck outside on a 12x12 plot of land while running for your lives may not be the perfect first date, but it worked for Linc and Ava. Their story was dangerous, action packed, and chock full of yummy sexual tension.

I liked Ava's drive. She's a bit of a damaged daddy's girl, but she doesn't get whiny about it. She takes action and goes to get answers. And Lincoln is pure Alpha Male - he has heart, he has strength, he's courageous and kind and protective, but he's also got that bit of bad boy edge that makes you melt. The two of them together were fun. They danced around each other so well that by the time they finally gave into their desires, the tension was so thick it was like this massive reading relief. LOL

I really liked Vincent (the hero of Wild Fever), but Linc is totally my new book boyfriend! He can polish his Bowie knives around me any day. :)

This is the second book in the Chiasson series and I am happier with the ending then the first book. While the first book was abrupt abd ended suddenly, this time around a little more backstory was provided. This gives me hope that the third will be even better. If you have tried the first and was disappointed with the anticlimactic ending, I would advise you to try again. Read this second go-around and see for yourself. Spoiler Alert: One of my issues, and maybe I'm looking for too much, is that if these brothers only hunt the supernatural and don't actually have jobs, how do the survive. Like I said, I ask too much, but I do like to get a well rounded story that doesn't leave odd questions floating around in my brain, lol.

An appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers

This excellent book for undergraduates is divided into 3 broad themes, sub divided into general and advanced topics. The authors have broken with the more usual approach to teaching jurisprudence which is to be welcomed for its innovative study method deployed here.

New editions for Jurisprudence do not appear as frequently as, say `case heavy' substantive law areas so the authors have merely tinkered with the text to improve it and sharpen it for the new edition... and they do just that! So this second edition includes a rearrangement of the general sections, re-written where necessary for a more systematic coverage.

With the advanced sections some new topics have been added, notably on law and deconstruction, and law and autopoiesis to name just a couple of areas. There's also an enhanced discussion of the rise of legal positivism linked to the rise of the modern state. The changing role of natural and human rights discourse is well covered to take account of recent developments.

Professors Veitch, Christodoulidis and Farmer have created a very modern teaching tool here breaking from the old approaches so the book is very well described as `accessible, interdisciplinary and socially informed' and successfully takes account of the most recent developments in current jurisprudential thought. It is just what I need to explain modern jurisprudence to the worried student!

Great summary of all the juicy HeartMath research

Although some of this content is a review, the new research will blow your mind. Great summary of all the juicy HeartMath research. I am especially happy they included the part about our heart rate variability during appreciation is 0.1 HZ which is the same as the Earth's magnetic field fluctuation! I saw this in a presentation at HeartMath by Dr Rollin McCraty and love to share this data with people when I do my presentations as a licensed HeartMath Provider. We are happy when we are in sync with Mother Earth too! So happy its in this book!!!!! Louann

A lucid, beautiful novel with a sincere and sarcastic tone

Solal is the son of the chief rabbi of Cephalonia. He is on his way to become a highly recognised diplomat for the United Nations. He then falls for a sweet and beautiful French catholic girl, just on the eve of WWII. They get together, passionate, ignorant of their families' disapprovals. But the growing antisemitism affects Solal's love and behaviour, and he becomes sarcastic, irritable and guilty, in spite of Aurore's efforts to keep their love alive.This is written in a beautiful, original style by a wonderful and sincere author who deserve international recognition. His tone gets you to the insights of human brain, which he analyzes with an incredible lucidity. Read it !
