Bill Jelen, Excel MVP and the host of MrExcel.com, has been using spreadsheets since 1985, and he launched the MrExcel.com website in 1998. Bill was a regular guest on Call for Help with Leo Laporte and has produced more than 1,900 episodes of his daily video podcast, Learn Excel from MrExcel. He is the author of 44 books about Microsoft Excel and writes the monthly Excel column for Strategic Finance magazine. Before founding MrExcel. com, Bill Jelen spent 12 years in the trenches—working as a financial analyst for finance, marketing, accounting, and operations departments of a $500 million public company. Tracy Syrstad is a Microsoft Excel developer and author of eight Excel books. She has been helping people with Microsoft Office issues since 1997, when she discovered free online forums where anyone could ask and answer questions. Tracy found out she enjoyed teaching others new skills, and when she began working as a developer, she was able to integrate the fun of teaching with one-on-one online desktop sharing sessions. Tracy lives on acreage in eastern South Dakota with her husband, one dog, two cats, one horse (two, hopefully soon), and a variety of wild foxes, squirrels, and rabbits.

Good but sloppy

The book is good, it covers everything about VBA in Excel 2016 and in an informative, simple way, very easy to understand and grasp, The book should have deserve 4 or even 5 stars if it was not so sloppy especially in regards to the sample files which a lot of them are just not included in this version of the book sample files but are part of the explanations, it's better to download also the excel2013 version sample files to have them all.

CREATING POWERFUL RELIABLE SPREADSHEETS WITH CORE EXCEL!!!!!!!

Are you a hard-core Excel user? If you are, then this book is for you! Authors Bill Jelen and Tracy Syrstad, have done an outstanding job of writing a book that can help you reduce the learning curve, so that you can write your own VBA macros and put an end to the burden of generating reports manually.
Authors Jelen and Syrstad, begin by introducing the editing tools of the Visual Basic environment and show why using the macro recorder is not an effective way to write VBA macro code. Then, the authors examine the three macros that have been recorded to make more sense out of them. They continue by providing seven tools for making the recorded code look like professional code. Then, the authors describe a fundamental component of any programming language: loops. They then discuss the seemingly arcane R1C1 style of formulas and show why it is important in Excel VBA. Next, the authors show you how to use the named ranges in macros. They continue by showing you how to write code to run automatically based on users’ actions, such as activating a sheet or selecting a cell. Then, the authors show you how to use multidimensional arrays. They show you the powerful technique of setting up your own class module. Next, the authors introduce the tools you can use to interact with users. They continue by showing you how to use Advanced Filter to produce reports quickly. Then, the authors introduce you to the most powerful feature in Excel: the pivot table. They then show you multiple techniques for handling various tasks in VBA. Next, the authors show you how to create and share your own functions. They continue by showing you how spreadsheet charting has become highly customizable and capable of handling large amounts of data. Finally, the authors show you the features that have changed significantly in Excel 2016.
The authors have done their job correctly with this excellent book, by making available the tools that you will need to design your own VBA applications in Excel. Also, within this great book, you have learned how to have your application interact with others, so that you can create applications that can be used by others in your organization or in other organizations.

I tried to download the files for this book and Windows Defender flagged a virus (Trojan). See the attached photo. Update: One of the authors provided access to the files on Dropbox. I have erroneously always trusted these types of book download sites; thanks Windows Defender! I upped the review to two stars based on the quick response I got from the author.
