About the Author
Ken Kardong is a professor in the zoology department at Washington State University, Pullman, WA. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and his MS and BA from the University of Washington. In addition to teaching comparative anatomy and evolution, Ken is also involved in developing software programs for use in the laboratory sections of these courses.

Best Vertebrate Anatomy book ever!

Hands down the best vertebrate anatomy book out there. I have heard people say that Kardong's writing is dense and confusing but this is the perfect level for a college student. As long as you understand biology/ biological writing you should be fine with this book. There is a newer edition out of this book and some of the writing was cleared up, because Kardong hired an editor for the new version.

A Layman & Artist's Perspective

This is hands down my favorite book in the world, which is why I feel compelled to review it. I'm not technically a student, but I've started studying biomechanics and vertebrate anatomy for my own purposes as an artist and animator. The first couple chapters on evolution and phylogeny were a little boring, since I'm not interested in that specifically, but Chapter 4: Biological Design and everything that follows is fantastic. Every page has useful illustrations and diagrams and I think the text is clear and pleasant to read. It's been interesting to read at the same time as Steven Vogel's "Life's Devices."

After lookimg thru comparative anatomy the graphs are much better than the first ed. I already have and the narrative does present a more thorough description than my version. The evolutionary approach is good and the extra graphics are helpful. The color graphics are definitely a help.The review of the invertebrate book. I was expecting more color graphics!!! The narrative is good . There is more detail , more material is included in more chapters.I was expecting color graphics for a text put togerther in the2004 area.But there is more information overall!!!
