Enlightening and spiritually whole

This book centers around the idea that the world is what we dream it to be. It is spiritual, it is enlightening, and it shows you that people in the "every day" world seek this information too. I read this book because last year I was reading a series of books by Perkins, and Alberto Villoldo (I would highly recommend him too!) and they are so helpful in terms of bettering yourself and learning about yourself and how to change your inner world to change the outer world.

Interesting but not helpful

This is a short book filled mostly with stories about John's excursions into the rainforests of Ecuador to introduce gringos (wealthy gringos, as he puts it) to shamans and their knowledge. He and the shamans help people do out of body experiences and healings using the local mind-altering concoctions - alcohol, ayahuasca, etc. In my opinion, he should combine this book with his two other short ones - Psychonavigation and The Stress Free Habit so people could get a book that's worth paying for.
I liked the book because it described the land and indigenous people of Ecuador to some extent and it did have a few ideas towards helping the world be a better place for all.

Speaks directly to the heart!

Having visited the Otavalan area of Ecuador three times...always with others wanting to follow whatever i found or discovered there...i regret that i could not have handed them this book to read instead of their trying to figure out what i was doing with the shamans and shamanas and so on. :) Much wisdom is instilled in the pages of this slim book that will carry you back to this place and urge you to respond in some spiritual way.
To expect that someone would tell you how to heal others is naive at best and not what is meant by the author when revealing what actually goes on when you meet some of the Ecuadorean shamans. You will never forget any encounter you have, but you must realize they are not all willing to welcome you into their lives now. There is a wonderful village of shamans outside of Otavalo that only those who know someone and have gained their trust will admit you to now...but perhaps things will begin to loosen up as Americans flood into the area seeking refuge from our staggering economy and hoping to live better lives--or not.
Well worth your time and money...which cannot be said for many books out on the subject today!
